The Journal - Autumn 2016

The latest news from important bodies such as the IMO and class societies as well as a number of regular sections that explore other aspects of shipping.

This edition includes some interim developments on three topics from the ShipInsight Guide series. These are Fuels and Lubes, Navigation and Bridge and Safety and Survival. All are very topical issues and we are sure that you will nd the articles interesting and informative. For an industry that has relied on oil fuels for more than a century, the arrival of alternatives offers some intriguing possibilities even if their take up is currently at a slow pace.

There is also an article looking at the options once the ballast water convention comes into effect. This is almost certainly very close but progress is agonisingly slow with rumoured ratifications failing to appear as anticipated. With the next MEPC just weeks away, could this be the venue where the starting gun on the convention is finally red?
